The first edition of the Directory of Industrial Establishments in Punjab was published in 1975 in which 6,236 units were included. The second edition, with up-dated information covering 8,729 industrial establishments, was brought out in 1980. The third edition on the basis of survey of 11,656 units was published in 1985 and 4th edition on the basis of survey of 44,560 units was published in 1988. The 5th Edition 2002 was prepared on the basis of door-to-door survey covering 61,103 units of all categories and then 6th Edition was published on the basis of door to door survey as well covering 18,006 large, medium and small selected industrial sectors. However, small and cottage level industrial units were covered by Punjab Small Industries Corporation.
The current updated directory has been prepared by the District Offices of the Directorate of Industries i.e. District Offices (Enterprise & Investment Promotion) covering 17,857 large, medium and small selected industrial sectors.
It is expected that the information in this revised and up-dated directory will prove to be useful for the entrepreneurs interested in setting up the new industrial establishments as well as the agencies and organizations connected with the future industrial planning.
